Narrator:
Joan and her husband made a kid's hang-out in their garage,
complete with an old stereo. One night Joan spied the light on,
so she went out and found two young men-one carrying the stereo,
the other trying to get the speakers down.
Voice 1:
He just came to get his stereo . . .
Voice 2:
What do you mean, it's our stereo!
Voice 1:
No, this guy said it was his, and we came to pick it up.
Voice 2:
No, this belongs to us, but if you think you need it
more than we do, let's go into the house to talk about it.
Actually it's not very good, that's why we let the kids have it out here.
Narrator:
Joan started to push her way past them to go back to the house.
The thief must have been scared she was going to call the police,
so he hit her, dropped the stereo, and ran.
Voice 2:
I don't think of myself as brave but that night I was.
I think the idea to offer him the stereo came from a
friend who tried the same thing.
